BIACORE permits detailed investigation of bimolecular binding without the use of conventional labels. A range of molecules from lipid vesicles, viruses, bacteria, and eukaryotic cells may be studied. The instrument provides extremely high sensitivity as well as precisely controlled experimental conditions. By immobilizing a molecule onto the sensor surface, binding events may be followed by surface plasmon resonance. As many as four separate measurements may be obtained from one chip, and automated fitting algorithms yield kinetic constants. Equipped with an autosampler, the BIACORE 3000 accommodates long, unattended runs over many hours. Sample injections may be as little as five microliters to monitor binding in all four flowcells. A broad range of sensor chip surfaces enables selection of optimal conditions for a variety of applications.
