Typhoon Variable Mode Imager (Amersham Biosciences)

A wide variety of biochemical experiments require the quantitative imaging of material (e.g. gels, plates, etc.) using phosphorescence, chemiluminescence, or fluorescence. The Facility contains a state-of-the-art Amersham Biosciences Typhoon 9210 instrument complete with ImageQuant TL software for analysis and quantitation of various samples ranging from proteins to DNA. This versatile system accommodates sandwich, agarose, and polyacrylamide gels, membranes, microplates, and microarrays. The high quality excitation lasers (Red HeNe @ 633 nm or Green Nd:YAG @ 532 nm) and collection optics allow for the sensitive detection of low abundance targets in artifact-free images. A wide choice of emission filters enable imaging of an extensive variety of fluorophores. Other features include: Automated four-color fluorescence scanning to allow multiplexing of multiple targets in the same sample, ensuring accuracy of analysis, increasing throughput, and saving time. Storage phosphor technology delivers high-resolution imaging and accurate quantitation of 3H, 14C, 32P, 33P, 35S, 125I, and other sources of ionizing radiation. Highly sensitive optics enable direct chemiluminescent imaging without intermediate exposures to films or screens.

Typhoon FLA 9500 (GE Healthcare Life Sciences)

Typhoon FLA 9500 is a variable mode laser scanner with modular access to filters and optical components, providing both versatile and flexible imaging for quantitation of biomolecules. Main features of the scaner are: 1-Versatility: imaging of multifluorescent-, chemifluorescent-, radioisotope-labeled, and colorimetric samples. 2- High resolution and quantitation: a pixel resolution of up to 10 µm and a linear signal response over five orders of magnitude provides quantitation in gels, blots, tissue sections, and arrays 3-High sample throughput: scanning area of 40 × 46 cm enables simultaneous imaging of several gels or blots. 4-Flexibility: optimized performance for new applications by adapting the system with stages, detectors, filters and lasers 5-2-D DIGE imaging: simultaneously image two 2-D DIGE gels for differential expression studies. 6-Excitation Lasers 473 nm, 532 nm and 635 nm. 7-Filters IP, LBP/Y510, LPG/O575, LPR/R665.
